What types of wood are used to make the handles?
We mainly use 5 types of wood for the manufacture of Deejo knives:
- Olive: Olea Europaea
- Juniper: Juniperus (family Cupressaceae)
- Beech: Fagus sylvatica
- Ebony: several species of the family Ebenaceae belonging to the genus Diospyros, known as ebony wood.
- Coral wood: Pterocarpus soyauxii.
These species of wood, perfectly suited for cutlery, offer optimal conditions of resilience and aesthetic. Though we use only a very small amount of wood (about 5 cubic meters per year, equal to a few trees), we dedicate special attention to their origin and to the maintenance of the forests from which these materials are taken. As a result, we are involved with Reforestaction, an organization that ensures forest planting both in France and abroad.
